Remel Buffered CYE Selective Agar w/ PAV (BCYE w/ GPAV) is a solid medium recommended for use in qualitative procedures for selective isolation of Legionella pneumophila from environmental samples. BCYE Agar (Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract), for Hardy Diagnostics Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract (BCYE) Agar formulations are recommended for use in the cultivation and primary isolation of Legionella spp. in water and other samples suspected of harboring the bacteria. Do not ingest, inhale, or allow to come into contact with skin. This product is for in vitro diagnostic use only. Legionella GVPC Medium (ISO), 90mm Plate - Southern Group The medium is identical to Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract (BCYE) agar except for the addition of the four selective compounds. Yeast extract provides sources of nitrogen, carbon and vitamins. Activated charcoal neutralises toxic metabolic by-products and ACES and potassium hydroxide buffer the media to the optimum pH. 2016.4.Microbiology Flashcards | Quizlet The lower photograph illustrates colonies growing on a buffered charcoal yeast extract agar plate that had been inoculated with material from the ulcer bed three days before. Tiny, pale-staining gram negative coccobacilli were seen on gram stain. The most likely causative agent is: Culturing, media, and handling of legionella. complex and defined media. The first protocol describes the use of buffered charcoal yeast extract (BCYE) agar, the solid medium that is most commonly used for culturing L. pneumophila. The next procedure details the cultivation of L. pneumophila in buffered … Oxoid - Product Detail Edelstein and Edelstein later compared agars used in the manufacture of buffered charcoal yeast extract medium and found significant differences in growth occurred.
